Packington and Normanton

  • Walked: 24th October 2006
  • Distance: 5.5m
  • Terrain: flattish
  • Summary: Park in packington, cross fields to Sprng Lane and continue straight along track. Take the muddy bridleway to Normanton le Heath, and take paths which run parallel to the road back to Packington.
  • Time: 2 hrs
  • Notable views: Difficult to spot any as it got dark earlier than I expected!
  • Note to self; Make sure camera has good batteries in it next time.

The next time a smug dog-walking local asks "where are you trying to get to?" And then tries to give me directions by road, blood will be spilled - I swear it will. I'm sure there's a smart answer, but I've not thought of it yet.

By the time I got through Normanton, it was darker than I'd anticipated, I didn't have a torch, and it probably would have been more sensible to take the road, but having argued with aforementioned dickhead about the fact that footpaths existed and that I would be using them, I had to cross the fields as a matter of principle. Thus I discovered how pleasant it is to be in the unlit countryside at night. Luckily, the paths in question were relatively un-hazardous and despite not being able to pick out Leicestershire's excellent yellow way posts very well, didn't get lost.

I've been a bit blue about the fact that it's now getting dark way too early, and I can't walk after work any more, but I think that the purchase of a decent torch might open up new possibilities!

The route above was generated using Meander.

When the next dickhead asks where you're trying to get to, try saying breathlessly "Anywhere away from the police!. Quick! Hide me!"
or perhaps
"I'm surveying proposed sites for a new gypsy encampment / animal experiment facility / airport."

And you're used to walking in the dark.
I remember one Christmas, with you and Helly, your mum and dad and the dog, walking for miles with bent backs straight into the teeth of a howling arctic gale, with the sea crashing over us in the pitch darkness.

And you did that for PLEASURE(!)

Hey, don't make Happisburgh beach sound toooooo enticing - everyone will want to go there!

Thanks for the suggestions for smart answers! I'll enjoy trying these!

That part of Happisburgh Beach was washed into the sea a couple of years back.

Hey! Perhaps Happisburgh's high speed cliff erosion can serve a useful purpose:
Suicides who aren't quite sure don't have to jump off Beachy Head; they can stand under the cliffs at Happisburgh instead.
There's a fifty-fifty chance of survival, or a cottage falling on their heads …

Hey Peahen, thank you for including my site in your links. I completely missed your being a cornet player--that would explain the metronome in your shareware collection. I was wondering about that. Great to know, and I intend to make use of the metronome.

Hey, thanks. Use it and enjoy it. I've been planning for a very long time to improve it so that you can have a customisable menu of general and favourite settings, so you can just select 'Andante' rather than typing '75'. Also a 'tap' mode so that you can just hit a key or click the mouse a few times and it picks up the speed from that.

So much to do and so little time. I've been really busy this year with Meander, Bin-it and now a new version of Organise.

is it just me, or does there seem to be a plague of Mac-using,
brass-playing, smarter-than-the-average women about at the moment?

Dive: "smarter than the average?" If you're including me in that club, then thank you very much!! Unfortunately, though, my laptop is a PC, and it's a sucky one at that.

About the metronome: a tap feature would be nice because as I work on a piece and work to get it up to tempo, bumping the beat up a notch or two at a time is helpful.

I can believe it in Robyn's case, but if I were smarter than average then I'd be a tad wealthier than I am right now, but I'll do what I like to do with compliments and smile as sweetly as I can and say thank you, Dive. :-)

Robyn, Tempo has a keyboard shortcut for 'notching up' and 'notching down' - command ] and command [ . Load it onto your G5 and try it ;-)

Decadent torch... I like the sound of that. Walking in the dark under a full moon is wonderful.

And... Ms. Freudian Slip Slips again. I think you should get a decadent torch.

lol. I'll look out for one, Sassy. In fact if you type 'decadent torch' into Google's image search, you do get a result - a picture of a beautifully-dressed girl with a burning torch being waggled at her... appealing in a surreal way!

Now you've done it!
In case you haven't spotted him, Old K has sniffed you out and linked to your blog.

Hee hee …
